MongoDB expands Australian investment to accelerate legacy modernisation and AI adoption

MongoDB has expanded its investment in Australia with a new office in Sydney to enable growth across its engineering, support and go-to-market functions in Australia.

MongoDB has seen strong growth in Australia and New Zealand and the region has become a key part of MongoDB’s Asia Pacific business – which has reached more than $220 million USD in annual revenue.

There is also a large and growing community of more than 70,000 developers in Australia and New Zealand who list MongoDB as a skill on LinkedIn.

As part of its increased investment, MongoDB will be expanding its already large Research and Development teams in Australia. Currently, more than 160 technical roles, such as developers, specialists, managers and engineers, are based in ANZ and work on a range of the company’s most cutting-edge projects.

According to IDC the Australian and New Zealand Database Management Systems market will be worth $1.9 billion USD and will grow 17.3% in 2025 – but a large portion of software spending in Australia is devoted to maintaining outdated systems that are expensive, risky and impede the development of modern use cases like AI.

“Legacy technology is holding back global innovation, which is why we are on a mission to eliminate roadblocks to groundbreaking technology like AI by bringing simplicity, speed and ease to the modernisation process for Australia’s leading companies,” said Simon Eid, Senior Vice President APAC, MongoDB.
