BT International has launched UC Edge, a managed service designed to help CIOs simplify enterprise communications for multinational organisations as they develop increasingly complex AI-powered workplace collaboration strategies.
The service addresses a growing challenge for global enterprises that operate multiple collaboration environments across different markets. Many organisations have inherited fragmented systems through mergers and acquisitions or introduced different collaboration tools to satisfy local business, regulatory and sovereignty requirements.
The result is often a complicated mix of platforms that increases operational costs, slows Digital Transformation initiatives and creates additional management burdens for IT teams.
UC Edge, which is now live and already deployed within highly regulated industries, aims to remove much of that complexity. The service enables organisations to add or switch AI-powered collaboration platforms without having to restart procurement processes or rebuild compliant voice infrastructure.
Built as an expansion of BT International’s Global Voice platform, UC Edge combines voice, collaboration and number management into a single vendor-agnostic service. The platform integrates with collaboration tools, contact centre environments and SIP services, allowing enterprises to manage communications through one global operating model.
The service has been designed as a unified communication layer that intelligently routes calls to the correct collaboration platform automatically. This removes the need for manual number alignment, portal modifications or additional routing requests.
IT teams can also migrate users between collaboration platforms with minimal disruption and significantly reduced operational effort.
According to Denise Lund, IDC Research Vice President for Worldwide UC&C and Telecom, multinational organisations are increasingly demanding greater flexibility as they modernise enterprise communications.
She said: “As multinational organisations modernise their communications, they increasingly demand the flexibility to adopt best-of-breed and vendor-agnostic collaboration solutions that align with diverse business and regulatory needs. BT International’s UC Edge empowers enterprises to seamlessly integrate and manage multiple platforms, reducing complexity while enabling choice and agility.”
Matt Swinden, Managing Director of Strategy and Product, BT International, said the service gives enterprises greater freedom to tailor collaboration strategies without creating additional integration challenges.
He said: “Many multinationals are juggling legacy collaboration platforms, regional needs or simple user preference. With UC Edge, customers get one contract, one commercial model and one global product delivered seamlessly, giving them the freedom to use the platforms they want without the integration burden.”
BT International’s Global Voice platform currently carries more than 16 billion calls annually across more than 70 countries and integrates with leading collaboration technologies.
The company says UC Edge also supports resilience, business continuity and regulatory alignment while helping organisations bring new sites and users online more quickly, while backing sovereignty requirements by helping organisations maintain control over how communications services are operated, secured and governed across different jurisdictions.
The company added that enterprises can future-proof collaboration strategies through support for multi-vendor environments while avoiding long-term lock-in. Intelligent routing capabilities automatically learn and direct new numbers through the appropriate systems, helping IT departments accelerate deployments and reduce the operational complexity traditionally associated with multinational communication environments at scale.
