LINE Bank Taiwan delivers 24/7 digital banking for its 2 million+ customers

LINE Bank Taiwan needed to build a fast, reliable and scalable platform from scratch to provide its more than 2 million customers with round-the-clock banking accessibility. We speak to LINE Bank Taiwan’s CTO, Leo Weng, and BMC’s VP of International Sales, Marcos Delgado, about how workflow orchestration is transforming its operations.

BMC, a global leader in software solutions enabling business faster than humanly possible, has collaborated with LINE Bank Taiwan to advance mainframe transformation, standardise workflow orchestration and automate data access.

From streamlining mainframe application development with BMC AMI to orchestrating complex workflows and data pipelines with the Control-M solution from BMC, organisations like LINE Bank Taiwan are improving operational efficiency, reducing IT overhead and enhancing service delivery while strengthening compliance and resilience.

As Taiwan’s leading purely online bank, LINE Bank needed to build its platform from scratch, combining digital banking with the popular LINE ‘super app’. The challenge was to quickly build and develop fast, reliable and scalable banking processes to serve its more than 2 million customers, with the ability to efficiently integrate new services over time.

By choosing Control-M for application and data workflow orchestration, LINE Bank provides seamless, 24×7 digital banking experiences. The bank uses Control-M to automate and orchestrate workflows for essential banking services, including daily account balancing, financial data analysis, channel synchronisation and other critical services, which comprise more than 5,000 job schedules.

As a result, LINE Bank became the first bank in Taiwan to offer nonstop US dollar currency exchange and has achieved:

  • A 30% reduction in manual wait times
  • A 30% reduction in manual work for cross-platform integration
  • A 30% reduction in maintenance time when launching new products

“With Control-M we can run secure, stable, efficient processes and flexibly integrate workflows across innovative new solutions, all while meeting the requirements of the financial industry,” said Leo Weng, CTO, LINE Bank Taiwan. “We use Control-M to automate complex workflows with high data volumes and we look forward to using it to ease the integrations of cloud and AI solutions in the future.”

Leo Weng, CTO, LINE Bank Taiwan

I caught up with Leo Weng, CTO, LINE Bank Taiwan, to dive deeper into the organisation’s collaboration with BMC Software and how the bank is now able to position itself competitively as a result.

What were the key technical or operational gaps you were looking to solve and why did BMC Software stand out over other vendors you considered?

As Taiwan’s leading and continuously growing online financial platform, LINE Bank’s challenge lies in providing its more than 2.27 million customers with a 24/7 uninterrupted, smooth, efficient, reliable and scalable digital banking experience.

BMC Software Control-M stands out among numerous services primarily because it enhances the visibility of over 5,000 Control-M-managed workflows within the core banking system’s complex processes, thereby resolving integration challenges across different banking platforms.

Since the implementation, where have you seen the most meaningful operational changes day-to-day?

Utilising Control-M to automate and orchestrate core banking service workflows reduces manual intervention, accelerates error detection and results in faster troubleshooting and smoother workflow execution.

From a customer perspective, how have these improvements translated into better reliability, speed, or new services? Are there specific user experiences that have noticeably improved?

By using Control-M to manage application and data workflows, LINE Bank can significantly improve the operational efficiency of key services such as daily account settlement and closing operations, daily financial data analysis and report generation and cross-system data synchronisation in a secure, stable and efficient manner.

How does Control-M help you address regulatory and compliance requirements in a highly controlled banking environment?

In a secure, stable and efficient manner, Control-M provides LINE Bank with a decentralised yet centralised management platform, enabling the stable execution of complex core banking workflows and meeting the security and compliance requirements of a highly regulated financial environment.

How do these improvements position LINE Bank Taiwan competitively within Taiwan’s fast-growing digital banking sector?

Implementing Control-M effectively reduces IT costs, enhances service delivery capabilities and significantly improves operational efficiency and business resilience. This allows LINE Bank to maintain its leading position in Taiwan’s highly competitive digital banking sector.

You mentioned future integration with cloud and AI – what are the biggest challenges you anticipate in making the transition seamless?

The biggest challenge in a hybrid environment is how businesses can maintain their existing levels of control, security and operational consistency while adding new systems and data flows. In this regard, we believe Control-M’s ability to flexibly integrate workflows can simplify the challenges of implementing AI solutions at LINE Bank.

What was the most challenging part of the transformation – technically or organisationally – and is there anything you’d do differently if you were starting over?

The most challenging part lies in designing and coordinating the massive and complex workflows for a smooth transition.

If we were to start over, we believe ‘starting early’ is paramount. This means investing more effort earlier in cross-team coordination, designing for standardised cloud and AI architectures, setting up new environments and introducing Control-M resources and efficient solutions.

Marcos Delgado, Vice President of International Sales, BMC, gave his take on the partnership.

From your perspective, what made LINE Bank Taiwan’s transformation particularly complex and how did your solutions adapt to meet those challenges?

LINE Bank Taiwan represents the new generation of digital-first banks, where customer expectations around speed, availability and seamless digital experiences are extremely high. The challenge was not only delivering 24×7 operational resilience but also enabling the bank to innovate faster while managing increasingly complex hybrid application, data and approval workflows across the organisation.

With Control-M, we helped LINE Bank Taiwan modernise and automate critical banking processes end-to-end, reducing manual effort by 30% and significantly improving operational efficiency. More importantly, the platform enabled faster product rollout cycles, stronger DevOps automation and greater system reliability across siloed environments. Our vision is that workflow orchestration is becoming a strategic layer for digital banks, connecting applications, data, AI and operations into a single intelligent and resilient operational fabric.

How are platforms like Control-M evolving to support the growing demand for cloud, data pipelines and AI-driven workloads in highly regulated industries like banking?

The market is rapidly evolving towards AI-driven operations, but in banking, innovation must happen with governance, resilience and trust at the core. Platforms like Control-M are evolving from traditional workload automation into intelligent orchestration platforms for cloud, DataOps and AI-driven hybrid environments that support business-critical workloads.

At BMC, we are embedding AI capabilities and expanding integrations across modern cloud, data and AI ecosystems to help banks automate complex workflows, accelerate operations and maintain full visibility, compliance and resilience. We see orchestration becoming the backbone that enables trusted AI adoption at scale in highly regulated industries. In the AI era, orchestrating business processes across hybrid environments and diverse technologies can be a challenge and this is one of the reasons enterprises turn to BMC.
