Huawei outlines health AI strategy at ESC 2026

Huawei’s vision and ongoing efforts in health AI were emphasised at the ESC 2026 Congress in Munich, where Dr Hong Zhou, President of Huawei European Research Institute, delivered a keynote drawing on his own experience and illustrated the transformative potential of smart wearable technology.

The technology works through ubiquitous sensing coupled with AI, which continuously interprets signals from the body and environment, translating everyday activities into personalised insights and measurable health gains. Healthcare evolves from reactively treating illness in care facilities to an intelligent ecosystem that preserves health and elevates quality of life.

In his keynote, Zhou noted that continuous monitoring and multi-modal data fusion can capture a far more comprehensive picture of an individual’s health than episodic clinical measurements. By applying advanced AI algorithms, these rich datasets can be translated into personalised health insights that not only empower users to better understand their own bodies but also offer physicians valuable longitudinal data to support more informed clinical decisions.

Huawei sees significant promise in the digital health sector and will remain committed to its research and development through sustained investment. Reaffirming open collaboration as a cornerstone of its health strategy, Zhou pointed to Huawei’s network of over 300 university and research institutes, 2,000+ cooperation projects a year and more than 20,000 scientific researchers.

Following the keynote session, Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) members approached Zhou and expressed keen interest in collaborating with Huawei, underscoring the growing relevance of AI-powered wearables in the cardiology community.
