HSBC introduces AI-enabled transaction banking through HSBCnio

HSBC has launched HSBCnio, a digital transaction banking platform that will allow corporate and institutional clients to connect their own AI tools to authorised banking information through Model Context Protocol.

HSBC has launched a digital transaction banking platform that enables corporate and institutional clients to access banking services through web, mobile, APIs and their own Artificial Intelligence tools.

HSBCnio brings together transaction banking services, data and connectivity within clients’ existing platforms and workflows.

A key component is HSBC’s Model Context Protocol (MCP), which allows clients’ AI tools to query authorised account and transaction information. HSBC said this could help treasury teams find and interpret banking information more quickly while maintaining established permissions and controls.

The platform also provides access to cash positions and transactions, trade loans, foreign exchange and payment tracking.

APIs enable banking services and data to be embedded into clients’ own systems, while API documentation, software development kits and a sandbox are intended to simplify integration.

“HSBCnio is designed around the way our clients run their businesses, giving them one digital solution with multiple ways to bank based on their preferences,” said Amber Henderson-Smart, Global Head of Client Connectivity, HSBC.

“The new solution brings transaction banking capabilities into the channels and workflows that clients use today, while helping them integrate AI through secure, permissioned access to their banking information.”

HSBC plans to expand the platform with further AI capabilities, including Ask HSBC, which will allow clients to query and interpret banking information.
