During HUAWEI CONNECT 2026, the Global Education Summit themed ‘AI × Education: Building the Talent Foundation for the Digital & Intelligent Era’ was held in Shanghai. The event provided a platform for Huawei to officially launch the AI Practice LAB (AIPL) Solution globally, while at the same time releasing the ‘AI+ Practical Teaching White Paper’.
AI-driven education transformation is gaining momentum and the conventional theoretical teaching model can no longer meet the industry’s demand for practical capabilities, making AI talent cultivation a top priority for higher education. Drawing on its extensive experience across various industries, Huawei has introduced the AIPL Solution, which is centred around real-world scenarios, real data and real algorithms.
This solution aims to bridge the gap between conventional theoretical teaching and industry needs by introducing real-world industry cases, anonymised data and engineering tools into teaching practices, to help universities cultivate AI professionals who are truly aligned with industry needs.
The company’s Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Tao Jingwen, noted that together with the education sector and industry enterprises, Huawei has integrated AI technology to jointly deepen its exploration of practical education models. It has built ‘roads’ and ‘bridges’ in theoretical learning, practice and scientific research innovation. Huawei will adopt an open approach to collaborate with global universities, research institutions and industry partners, empowering the digital and intelligent transformation of the education sector through technological innovation.
The Huawei AIPL Solution was officially launched by representatives from Huawei, Global Public Sector BU, Wuhan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University – and has been deployed at multiple universities including Beijing Institute of Technology and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, to build AI practical teaching solutions.
The event also saw Huawei and several universities and partners release the ‘AI+ Practical Teaching White Paper’ which systematically elaborates the theoretical logic and practical pathways for restructuring higher education talent cultivation paradigms in the AI era.
Focusing on the core topic of ‘AI + practical teaching’, it proposes a transformation reference framework featuring ‘one foundation, two types of elements, three levels of courses, four-dimensional evaluation and a five-party ecosystem’. This framework aims to provide a systematic, pragmatic and actionable guide for university administrators, frontline teachers, education researchers and industry professionals.
Event attendees shared their thoughts on how AI empowers education transformation, with Du Min, President of Huawei Higher Education BU, pointing out that AI practical teaching is a key pathway for talent cultivation.
Bi Xiaohan, Deputy Director of UNESCO’s International Centre for Higher Education Innovation, said AI is pushing higher education beyond knowledge transmission towards collaboration between humans and machines. She pointed to gaps in teacher capabilities and uneven infrastructure as ongoing obstacles, arguing this calls for sustained training programmes and closer ties between industry and academia.
