Red Hat has named Massimo Fatato vice president of its telecommunications business in EMEA. Effective immediately, Fatato will lead strategic development and programme execution to support Red Hat’s expansion in the telecommunications market in EMEA.

With more than 25 years of experience in telecommunications across the globe, Fatato will be responsible for setting out Red Hat’s vision for the EMEA telecommunications market and for overseeing the execution of this strategy across sales and marketing. This includes expanding and consolidating the partner ecosystem within which Red Hat is able to support the requirements of its telecoms customer base. Fatato joins Red Hat from HP, where he served as general manager for its Operations Support System (OSS) portfolio worldwide, and previously held positions at Cisco and Accenture.

“The telecommunications landscape is changing at an unparalleled pace. Massimo knows the industry inside-out, and we are delighted to have him on board to head up our telecommunications operations throughout EMEA. With his extensive industry background, Massimo brings the experience needed to broaden and deepen our business across the industry, delivering to our EMEA customers the operational, economic, and innovation benefits offered by Red Hat technologies”, says Werner Knoblich, Senior Vice President and General Manager, EMEA, Red Hat.

As pressure increases on the telecoms industry to meet heightening customer demands and to adapt to a fast pace of technology change, Red Hat sees a significant opportunity to support network equipment providers (NEPs) and communications service providers (CSPs) with its platforms and solutions. Red Hat is well positioned to help the telecoms community as it looks to open systems such as NFV and OpenStack to help simplify, unify, and update complex infrastructure without disrupting the always-on quality of experience-driven business.

“As we witness the telecom industry undergo fundamental technological transformation, there is a huge potential for companies like Red Hat to step in and support NEPs and CSPs through this evolution, and I am excited by the opportunity to take the reins on Red Hat’s initiatives in the telco industry. A major reason I chose to join Red Hat is because it is founded on open principles and is organised around an open culture, which, in contrast to the traditionally closed environment of the telecoms industry, could become the catalyst that drives forward this transformation and enables it to succeed”, concludes Massimo Fatato,Vice President, Telecommunications, EMEA, Red Hat.
