EGA RAK relies on Veeam to deliver always-on availability

Veeam Software has announced that the Electronic Government Authority (EGA) of Ras Al Khaimah, has deployed Veeam Availability Suite to meet its business requirements with respect to high availability, multiple levels of cost savings and rapid return on investments (ROI).

The Electronic Government Authority (EGA) of Ras Al Khaimah was established in 2004 to transform Ras Al Khaimah to an online community, through the application of the latest technologies and integrated solutions. EGA provides centralised IT services to the government entities in Ras Al Khaimah in the following areas: technical project management, technical services management, training programmes, and e-services.

In line with its mission to implement integrated solutions using cutting-edge technologies EGA began heavily virtualising its IT environment. However the earlier backup solution was not designed for a virtual environment. “With complete virtual infrastructure and mission-critical applications – representing 95% overall virtualisation – we identified a shortcoming that needed to be urgently addressed,” said Alia Al Kindy, Manager IT Services, EGA.

After carefully evaluating the market, including its incumbent provider, EGA found that the comprehensive set of capabilities offered by Veeam Availability Suite met the requirements for the virtualised environment.

“Veeam stood out from both technical and support perspectives. Veeam Availability Suite was easy to deploy, manage and offered rich reporting tools. We are able to retrieve and restore data that users request very easily within short timeframes,” said Al Kindy.

Veeam provided EGA with multiple levels of cost savings, rapid ROI, and simplified management as well as greater visibility and lower man-power requirements. With Veeam solution allowing EGA to reassign resources to tasks that drive business productivity, the implementation has been a big success.
