Egypt and Kuwait have made an agreement to co-operate in dealing with cybercriminals deemed a threat to national security.
The agreement, announced by Egypt’s Prosecutor-General Nabil Sadek, will accelerate legal proceedings against cybercriminals and clamp down on those suspects wanted by both countries.
Sadek told Egypt’s state news agency MENA that Egypt and Kuwait will hand over suspects to each other should one of the countries request the arrest of suspected cybercriminals based in the other country.
“Since crime has become more complex and cross-border, no country can effectively confront it alone,” said Sadek.
Kuwait is one of Egypt’s close Gulf allies and the deal is intended to boost joint judicial co-operation to combat all forms of crime, facilitate the exchange of information and speed up the handover of suspects. The agreement will also develop the use of technology by members of the judiciary to stay on top of methods used by criminals.
