Cisco Secure Application offers business risk observability for cloud-native applications

Cisco has announced the availability of Cisco Secure Application on its Full-Stack Observability Platform. The new service aims to bridge the gap between application and security teams, ensuring the secure development and deployment of modern applications.

The latest release extends its capabilities to manage not only cloud-native applications but also hybrid applications. This comes as IT teams face mounting pressure to shift towards modern, distributed applications. A recent Cisco study reveals that 92% of global technologists acknowledge that the race for rapid innovation has compromised robust application security.

This trade-off has exposed organisations to significant cybersecurity vulnerabilities. Companies now confront larger attack surfaces and gaps in their application security layers. These weaknesses, primarily caused by siloed teams, have resulted in a surge in security incidents that jeopardize customer data and business reputations.

Cisco Secure Application, now part of Cisco’s Full-Stack Observability Platform, equips customers with comprehensive visibility and intelligent business risk insights across cloud environments. These tools enable businesses to promptly respond to security risks that could impact both revenue and reputation, thereby reducing their overall organisational risk profiles.

The service integrates with Cisco’s leading security products and offers several key features:

  • Swiftly locate and isolate security issues across various application entities such as services, workloads, pods, and containers.
  • Prioritise issues based on a business risk score, which combines application performance data and business impact context.
  • Enhance incident response times with real-time remediation guidance and prescriptive actions to tackle the most pressing security vulnerabilities.

“Application security has never been more critical,” said Ronak Desai, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Cisco Full-Stack Observability and AppDynamics. “Business risk observability can help IT professionals understand and prioritise risks. Our new offering on the Full-Stack Observability Platform underscores our commitment to equipping customers with the tools they need for secure digital experiences.”

Mark Leary, Research Director at IDC, commented: “Digital infrastructure needs to operate cohesively rather than as a collection of disparate components. Cisco’s domain experience and tech stack oversight position them well to bring together application observability, security intelligence data, and business risk observability.”
