Entel advances connectivity project for inhabitants of Isla Maillen

A connectivity project will deepen digital inclusion for residents of Isla Maillen, located off the coast of Southern Chile.

Entel’s internal participatory innovation program, called Desafío Territorio de Ideas, in association with the Isla Maillen Rural Health Care Service, will improve remote health care in the town, located 30 minutes by boat from Puerto Montt.

This project, which seeks to provide a solution to connectivity and contribute to local health needs, will benefit more than 1,000 inhabitants, who remain isolated in rainy seasons and adverse weather conditions, without the possibility of being attended to by health personnel.

Officials will be able to communicate to patients and deliver information to them while they are waiting to attend.

Health professionals and the elderly on the island will be trained to guide them in the use of new technological tools.

Patricia Munoz, Director of Territory and Communities Entel, said: “This project represents the faithful commitment that we at Entel have to continue providing solutions in more remote areas, where we continue working to bring technology closer, provide connectivity and make life easier for people. This initiative met the necessary criteria related to social impact and speed of implementation to execute it in a short term.”
