Colombian government invests near US$4m in technology for schools in Bolívar

Colombian ICT Minister Mauricio Lizcano has allocated close to US$4 million for the delivery of 2,400 computers for 101 public schools in the Colombian department of Bolívar.

“It is very painful that in the 21st century, during a technology revolution, children are learning about technology in a book. We are not going to allow it,” Lizcano said.

The computers have a security system that allows tracking the exact location of the equipment. In addition, they have educational software with content in science, programming, English and robotics.

During a visit to the El Pozón Polytechnic Educational Institution, the installation of 33 educational innovation laboratories for the region was launched – a space that allows children and young people to innovate in the world of robotics and programming.

Lizcano said he was sure Bolívar was going to take advantage of the opportunity to change lives.

“If there is technology, I am sure that the history of this community will change,” he said.
