Entel has revealed its plans to shut down the 2G network in Chile

Entel has revealed its plans to shut down the 2G network in Chile, starting in the second half of 2024.

With just a year remaining until the switch, the telecom giant aims to ease the transition to modern technology by rolling out a comprehensive support strategy targeting a specific group of users in the Biobío Region.

Under this initiative, Entel will be focusing on assisting its customers, both prepaid and subscription-based, who are aged 70 and above, residents of rural areas without access to delivery services, and individuals who were impacted by the devastating February forest fires.

Kicking off the project with a pilot launch in the Biobío Region, a multifaceted campaign will be implemented, encompassing informative sessions, mobile device replacements and upgrades for those still reliant on the 2G network.

Patricia Muñoz, the Director of Territory and Stakeholder Groups at Entel, emphasized the company’s commitment to providing a robust mobile network across the nation. Over the course of nearly six decades, Entel has continually evolved its network in sync with emerging mobile technologies, ensuring a seamless connectivity experience for its customers in urban as well as rural and remote locations, including places like Easter Island.

Muñoz said: “As part of this evolutionary process, we are taking the step to phase out the 2G network. We’ve strategically devised a proactive territorial rollout plan that will keep our customers well-informed, facilitating this transformation while minimizing any potential disruptions.”
