The National Telecommunications Program (Pronatel) has reported that citizens from 340 beneficiary rural localities in the regions of Cajamarca, Huancavelica, Ayacucho, Apurímac, Cusco and Tumbes in Peru have accessed the Internet connections of its Digital Access Public Spaces (EPAD) initiative a total of 1,028,328 times in July.
This result includes the interventions carried out in the Cajamarca and Tumbes regions, which have been operating since March 31 and July 21, 2023, respectively, exceeding 236.68% of the 434,484 Internet connections registered in July 2022, when the EPAD was in operation in the regions of Huancavelica, Ayacucho, Apurímac and Cusco.
Of the total connections, the Cajamarca region generated the most significant use and exploitation of the network (463,415), followed by Ayacucho (170,956), Apurímac (149,578), Huancavelica (120,142), Cusco (81,693) and Tumbes (42,544).
The browsing preferences of the citizens and visitors of the 310 rural localities benefiting from the EPAD initiative focus on educational and recreational topics, such as the social networks of TikTok, Facebook, YouTube and Google tools.
The objective of the EPAD initiative is to increase the penetration of Internet access among the citizens of rural localities and their visitors, who freely access academic, recreational or economic activities from their cell phones, electronic devices, tablets or laptops.
