ICT Ministry delivers computers to improve children’s education in Colombia

The Colombian Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) has provided educational computers to enhance the learning processes of children and adolescents across different regions of the country.

Mauricio Lizcano, Minister of ICT, said: “We are currently traveling across the nation, delivering these tools that enable us to leverage technology and achieve productive connectivity. We aim to reinforce educational innovation through the utilization of computers and the integration of pre-installed digital tools, applications and programs, all of which contribute to enhancing the education of our children.”

In determining the distribution parameters for 70% of these computers, the ICT Ministry will consider various factors. Noteworthy variables include the student enrollment figures in educational institutions in partnerships involving technical resources, establishments designated as digital centers or engaged in digital skill advancement initiatives, the proportion of enrolled students from ethnic minority backgrounds and the accessibility of computer equipment for each student, among other considerations.

It was also defined that the computers would be given to the minors by their parents or legal guardians. During Minister Mauricio Lizcano tenure, a total of 36,321 computers were distributed across 17 departments, namely Chocó, San Andrés, Tolima, Santander, Atlántico, Bolívar, La Guajira, Guainía, Risaralda, Caldas, Quindío, Nariño, Cundinamarca, Cauca, Boyacá, Vichada and Antioquia.
