Thanks to a multi-year partnership with the Government of El Salvador, Google Cloud has plans to open an office and provide Google Distributed Cloud services. This initiative aims to support the country’s Digital Transformation, enhance government services, healthcare and education.
Google Cloud and the government of El Salvador have announced a multi-year agreement to aid El Salvador in its ambition to be a tech hub in Central America.
Under mutually agreed conditions, Google Cloud has plans to establish a legal entity and a Google Cloud office in the Republic of El Salvador. They will also launch a Google Distributed Cloud instance for the country, bringing infrastructure closer to where El Salvador’s data is generated. Moreover, a Cloud Center of Excellence will be set up to offer technical guidance to businesses and organizations, guiding them to reap the most benefits from cloud tech and innovations.
Over this seven-year strategic partnership, pending legislative approval, Google Cloud and the government of El Salvador will collaborate to put cloud tech at the forefront of the nation’s modernization in three areas:
• Digital Government: Google Cloud will partner with El Salvador to digitalize government processes such as electronic invoicing, permitting and more. El Salvador will employ Google Distributed Cloud as the bedrock for this Digital Transformation. Google Cloud’s introduction of the Distributed Cloud in El Salvador marks it as the first Latin American government to utilize this cutting-edge cloud tech.
• Healthcare: With an aim to uplift its healthcare services, El Salvador will integrate Google Cloud’s Artificial Intelligence technologies. This will aid doctors with real-time data, enhancing the health of communities across the nation.
• Education: An intent to roll out a unified Education Data Platform is in place. It seeks to furnish administrators, educators, parents, and public education leaders with timely and consistent data. This is a continuation of the country’s modernization journey that started in 2021. Back then, El Salvador’s Education Ministry and its Department of Innovation chose Google Workspace as their primary collaboration tool for 83 government bodies and over 1.5 million educators and pupils. Thus, Google for Education emerged as the main educational platform for the nation’s entire education system.

Last year, Google pronounced an investment commitment of 1.2 billion USD in Latin America and the Caribbean over the ensuing five years. This encompasses a Google.org grant to Pro Mujer to empower Indigenous women-led enterprises in Central America through microloans and digital skills education.
