The expectation that is felt regarding the issue of connectivity in Colombia is great, governments in Latin America are facing challenges and targets to meet that are important: There is talk of speed, coverage, increase in averages and quality, aimed at reducing the digital divide, and which will ultimately translate into the development of society.

In short, 2024 is part of an era in which efficient connectivity is sought, at an extreme speed and absolutely reliable, ‘fast and well done’, you could say. The world is changing in a hurry, hours and days are getting shorter, and the entire ecosystem needs to be connected at the same time, to study, learn, create, work, market, socialize and be much more competitive and productive. Not to mention that we are now immersed on the Internet for leisure and the development of our hobbies.

In view of the above, governments, companies, institutions, Internet providers; and in general, Internet players, will have to join a commitment to achieve fast and reliable connectivity, with unwavering quality.

Hand-in-hand with this expectation, there are challenges that must be overcome with the right technology. From InterNexa, experts in connectivity solutions, especially in urban and interurban fiber optics, we share the five main challenges:

1. For governments, bringing the Internet to underserved areas, which due to their geography are far from the digital world, is a fundamental part of their technological and transformation agenda. In the case of Colombia, because of the three mountain ranges, it is a region with great challenges and for this reason, it is a priority to have innovative solutions that allow overcoming these great barriers that hinder the development of interurban areas.

2. To achieve an Internet that matches the fast-paced corporate world, so that the user experience is positive in a world saturated with situations that require high demand every day, such as video conferences, live broadcasts, simultaneous product launches in different parts of the world, augmented reality experiences, and the rise of Artificial Intelligence, among many more. It becomes one of the challenges that must be leveraged in technology that revolutionizes the way we connect, companies will have to abandon traditional distribution networks and explore new architectures such as the edge, which is basically distributing and bringing content and computing closer to end-users.

3. The quality of access is a priority, it is not enough to simply have the Internet, today global competitiveness is a call to the profitability of companies and corporations that must operate at the speed of light, under the concept of collaborative work. Here arises the third challenge, which is to reduce the congestion of the global network and improve the user experience in general, this will undoubtedly result in the achievement of business objectives.

4. Providing a better service for Internet users, in this way, ISPs (Internet Service Providers) will have to ensure that users can access and download content immediately, without interruptions and with the best possible quality, will be a priority. Fiber connectivity has gone from being an advanced option to becoming a pressing necessity for ISPs. The growing demand for bandwidth and the need for faster connection speeds have catapulted fiber optics to the forefront of the scene.

5. The other end of the chain is the developers, owners of applications and content, for whom having their information close to the user is vital, and their interest in the Content Delivey Network or CDN, is higher every day, as these assure them that their content will always be available and that it will be easy and quick to consult by their target audience. No matter where they are in the world.

In short, delivering a high-quality Internet service with better performance in Colombia and Latin America will depend on the technical and human capabilities of providers in terms of connectivity. At InterNexa, we are experts in data and Internet connectivity, we have been working closely with content generating companies (office suites, video games, video streaming, among others) for more than 20 years, seeking to deliver a high-quality Internet service and better performance to customers in Latin America. We have developed a series of agreements at a global level to interconnect the most relevant and important content on the Internet directly and at a shorter distance.
