Embratel launches AI solution for strategic weed management in soybean and sugarcane crops

Smart Field by Cromai is based on constant learning algorithms detecting exact location of weeds and classifying them according to group.

Embratel has launched of Smart Field by Cromai, an AI solution using Deep Learning to accurately locate and classify weeds that can put soybean and sugarcane plantations at risk.

From areas defined by the producers, AI processes the images collected in Drone flights, through a Deep Learning system with more than 150 million references for comparison of colors, shapes and textures.

The technology can identify and categorize different types of weeds that harm the productive potential of crops, with analysis available on a platform as an interactive georeferenced map with the exact points of where each weed is and the infestation classifications by layer – as well as the percentage at which the use of herbicide will no longer be necessary.

From this, producers can make decisions based on effective data about the application of pesticides only in the right places, generating savings in inputs and financial resources, increasing productivity and reducing the environmental impacts that can be caused by herbicides.

The solution is provided in partnership with Cromai, a startup focused on AI for agribusiness.

“In addition to sugarcane and soybeans, the forecast is to expand the use of the solution to other crops soon”, said Adriano Rosa, Executive Director, Embratel.

A specialized technical support team is available to carry out the integration and configuration of the solution with the drones used by the customer, which do the initial imaging.

The solution also allows farmers to transform the data into detailed and specific spray maps that can be inserted into any make and model of drones and sprayers on the market – allowing for optimization in operations and enabling workers in the field to act more strategically on other initiatives.

“Because it is AI-based, Smart Field by Cromai is constantly evolving. As the processing is carried out, the solution increases its computer vision capacity, recognizing more and more patterns among the weeds of each crop,” says Eduardo Polidoro, Director of IoT, Claro.

By using Smart Field by Cromai, producers also gain in reducing the wear and tear of machinery, by reducing use during operations in the fields.

Organizations that provide machinery, agricultural engineering services and market herbicides can also benefit from Smart Field by Cromai

Integrating services with technology provides more analytical and complete approaches to customers, providing special offers and ensuring maximum efficiency in the use of equipment, services and supplies.

The solution is also able to provide agricultural insurance firms with a more detailed understanding of the risks associated with crop losses according to the state of the crops – with the potential for more personalized coverage adapted to the specific needs of each crop.
