Somos Internet raises US$40m Series B to build AI-ready digital infrastructure for Latin America

Colombian infrastructure company Somos Internet will triple its footprint in Colombia and launch in Mexico City delivering abundant fibre connectivity to power AI adoption across the region.

Somos Internet, the vertically integrated fibre provider building AI-ready infrastructure across Latin America, has announced US$40 million in Series B funding co-led by Bracket Capital and Ribbit Capital, with participation from new and existing investors including Union Square Ventures, Kaszek Ventures, Not Boring Capital, Zero Infinity Partners and Y Combinator.

The funding marks a significant milestone for Somos as it accelerates its mission to deliver abundant, high-performance connectivity across Latin America – laying the groundwork for widespread artificial intelligence adoption in one of the world’s most dynamic emerging markets.

The infrastructure gap in the AI era

If compute is the brain of the AI era, connectivity is its nervous system. Without high-capacity, low-latency networks, even the most advanced AI models cannot deliver meaningful real-world impact. Across Latin America, however, digital infrastructure has historically lagged behind global standards, creating a bottleneck for innovation, productivity and economic growth.

Somos Internet is addressing this gap head-on.

The company delivers multi-gigabit residential fibre starting at US$15 per month with no contracts, alongside bespoke enterprise plans that scale up to 100 Gbps. Its service model combines cutting-edge infrastructure with customer-centric design, offering reliability and speed previously unavailable at scale in the region.

Rapid growth and market traction

Somos has quickly emerged as Colombia’s fastest-growing fibre ISP. In 2025, the company achieved triple-digit momentum, with revenue growing 3x and its user base more than doubling year-over-year. This growth reflects both strong demand for high-quality connectivity and the company’s ability to execute efficiently in complex markets.

Its enterprise customer base includes leading regional technology companies such as Mercado Libre and Rappi—organisations that require robust, low-latency infrastructure to support logistics, payments and real-time data operations.

Looking ahead, Somos projects continued acceleration in 2026. The company plans to more than triple its serviceable footprint in Colombia while simultaneously launching operations in Mexico City, marking its first expansion beyond its home market.

Building ‘FiberX’ for the AI future

At the core of Somos’ strategy is its proprietary network architecture, known as FiberX. Unlike traditional ISPs that rely on shared bandwidth models, FiberX is designed to deliver dedicated fibre connectivity directly to each home or business – mirroring the performance and reliability standards of modern data centres.

“This new capital allows the Somos flywheel to approach escape velocity in Colombia and lays the groundwork to repeat the model in Mexico,” said Forrest Heath, CEO, Somos Internet.

“We’re building FiberX, our data centre–inspired network architecture that delivers dedicated fibre connectivity directly to every home, scales from 1G to 100G through simple module swaps, and uses dual fibre links for built-in redundancy.”

This architecture not only improves performance but also future-proofs the network for AI-driven applications, from real-time language models to edge computing and autonomous systems.

A vertically integrated advantage

One of Somos’ defining characteristics is its vertical integration. The company controls its infrastructure stack end-to-end – from fibre deployment and network design to hardware and customer experience.

This approach enables faster deployment, better economics and greater flexibility in product development. It also opens the door to new revenue streams beyond traditional Internet service.

“The really exciting thing about Somos is that their vertical integration unlocks so many different paths for growth,” said Packy McCormick, Not Boring Capital.

“Everything from selling networking solutions to hyperscalers in Latin American data centres to hardware and digital product offerings to existing users. Their infrastructure capabilities open doors to adjacent industries.”

Enabling AI adoption across Latin America

As AI adoption accelerates globally, the need for robust digital infrastructure is becoming increasingly urgent. Latin America represents a massive opportunity, with a young, tech-savvy population and rapidly growing digital economies.

However, without reliable connectivity, many businesses and consumers remain unable to fully participate in the AI revolution.

Somos aims to change that.

By delivering affordable, high-speed Internet at scale, the company is enabling a new generation of applications – from AI-powered customer service and fintech platforms to remote work, education and healthcare solutions.

The company’s focus on both residential and enterprise markets ensures that its impact is broad-based, supporting innovation across sectors.

Expansion into Mexico: A strategic move

The launch in Mexico City represents a critical step in Somos’ regional strategy. As one of Latin America’s largest and most important urban centres, Mexico City offers a substantial market opportunity and a gateway to further expansion across the region.

The company plans to replicate its Colombia playbook – leveraging its FiberX architecture, vertically integrated model and customer-first approach – to rapidly gain market share.

Success in Mexico could position Somos as a leading pan-regional infrastructure provider, capable of serving both local businesses and global technology companies operating in Latin America.

The bigger picture

The Series B funding round underscores growing investor confidence in the role of infrastructure in shaping the future of AI. While much of the attention in AI has focused on models and applications, companies like Somos are building the foundational layers that make those innovations possible.

By combining affordability, performance and scalability, Somos is not only transforming connectivity in Latin America but also enabling the region to fully participate in the global AI economy.

As the company scales its operations and expands into new markets, its impact is likely to extend far beyond Internet access – reshaping how millions of people live, work and interact in an increasingly connected world.
