Nilus uses SAP Business One to boost its initiatives against hunger

Argentinian company Nilus streamlines processes withSAP Business One.

Nilus, a triple impact company that develops technology to combat food insecurity, has chosen SAP Business One to streamline its processes and accompany its growth in the region.

As such, it underpins its plan to reach more and more people and continue working for the second Sustainable Development Goal (SDG): zero hunger. The implementation, deployed remotely, was carried out by Seidor, a SAP business partner.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), between a quarter and a third of food intended for human consumption is lost or wasted each year. Only in Argentina does that figure rise to 16 million tons (362 kg. per capita), equivalent to 12.5% of the total produced in the country. In Latin America this percentage reaches 15%.

The start-up founded in Argentina, with a presence in Buenos Aires, Mexico City and San Juan (Puerto Rico), in which more than 30 collaborators work, is dedicated to the distribution of food of high nutritional quality among social institutions and families that inhabit vulnerable neighborhoods.

More efficiency, more healthy food dishes

One of their main challenges was to make their operations more efficient, since they appealed to a high percentage of manual processes that generated risks of errors and delays.

Thanks to SAP Business One, they have unified information in one place, pre-established processes and industry best practices. This solution allowed Nilus to streamline its volume of activity between 50% and 65% with the same equipment, which translates into more plates of healthy food delivered to more low-income people in different communities.

Ady Beitler, Co-Founder and CEO of Nilus, said: “In a context where only a tiny part of the food that is wasted is delivered to people in vulnerable situations, we rely on technology to generate social impact, guaranteeing the distribution of healthy food at a lower price in vulnerable communities.”

Nilus milestones

Nilus was the winner of Social Innomarathon 2019, a regional competition of SAP and Socialab that seeks to promote entrepreneurship with social or environmental impact in Latin America through sustainable business models that use technologies, digital tools and data management.
