GCC one of the highest growth regions for Oracle Cloud Applications worldwide: Oracle SVP, Leopoldo Boado Lama

Global adoption of cloud applications is driving innovation. Oracle has more than 9,800+ Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP customers and 35,000+ Oracle NetSuite customers that run their mission-critical business functions on Oracle’s specialized cloud applications.

“Oracle is also supporting global customers with process automation and processes standardisation. This is also a driver for the rapid growth of cloud adoption,” says Leopoldo Boado Lama, Senior Vice President, Business Applications, ECEMEA, Oracle.

“Oracle is enabling enterprises to adopt cloud by giving them the choice of how to adopt cloud, either on-premises, hybrid, or as full cloud models. This is always at the pace of the customer,” adds Boado Lama.

Early and fastest adopters

Boado Lama indicates that Oracle’s on-premises installed base in UAE is among the highest in the world. “Moving this installed base into the cloud is giving us amazing growth rates. Our cloud regions in this part of the world are the top in terms of cloud consumption.” For Oracle, the GCC is one of the highest growth regions worldwide.

“We are seeing exponential growth in every industry, but I want to highlight two industries,” says Boado Lama. “Across the Gulf region, the government and banking and finance customer segments are the fastest adopters of the Oracle Cloud platform.”

“The fast movement in terms of cloud adoption in the public sector is really surprising us across the Middle East.” And Boado Lama gives credit to the cloud first policy adopted by every government in the Middle East.

The adoption of cloud is mostly for Oracle Fusion Cloud suite of horizontal solutions including back-office ERP, EPM, supply chain, HCM and for front-office CX.

Oracle industry vertical solutions are also seeing similar demand levels for cloud adoption. “Two big industries are driving data transformation,” says Boado Lama.

Post the acquisition of Cerner, Oracle has been aggressively going to market targeting the healthcare industry. The other vertical industry that Oracle has been going to market with is hospitality leveraging its OPERA Cloud Property Management solution.

Boado Lama believes Oracle is the only cloud vendor offering the complete end to end stack in the region. “We have data, we have infrastructure, we have our platform, we have our cloud application, and we have our industry application. Nobody else is offering this approach to the market.” Further Oracle offers this on-premises for regional enterprises that are not ready for the cloud, and in the hybrid cloud and public cloud.

Channel partners and reach

Cloud is a low-cost platform for regional enterprises to test their innovations and see results is a short period of time. Enterprises can test application very fast, if this is going to work or not, without spending a fortune. There are standard processes and they do not need to reinvent the wheel.

“This frees up their resources and time to focus on innovation and I think it is the main driver,” says Boado Lama.

With this pace of cloud adoption and growth in the region, Oracle needs its partners to scale as well. “Growing at the pace that we are growing, we need more and more partners, to be really engaged, to build big Oracle practices, and to be able to deliver on our cloud services.”

Inside the region Deloitte and Accenture are key Oracle partners. And with the partnerships announced at Oracle CloudWorld Tour Abu Dhabi in May this year, Etisalat and Injazat are now also equally important Oracle partners.

The rapid adoption of Oracle Cloud in the region is also attracting new channel partners who can see the business opportunity of working with Oracle. “I am seeing partners investing in upskilling resources and moving employees from other technologies into Oracle,”

Looking forward, Boado Lama believes positive growth rates of the region will remain in the future as well. “We are seeing the economy booming in the coming years.” However global instability and lack of confidence in making investments are likely to remain as ongoing challenges.

“We need this confidence in the future economy for companies to make the right investment,” he summarizes.
