Lynk and Omnispace merge to deliver next-gen global direct-to-device connectivity

Lynk Global and Omnispace have announced plans to merge, creating a unified company to deliver next-generation direct-to-device (D2D) satellite connectivity that bridges satellite and terrestrial networks. SES will become a major strategic shareholder, supporting deployment of D2D and IoT services for mobile network operators (MNOs), enterprises and government customers through a multi-orbit, multi-spectrum architecture.

The combined entity will unite Omnispace’s 60 MHz of globally coordinated S-band spectrum – covering over one billion people across four continents – with Lynk’s patented low-cost satellite platform, capable of connecting standard mobile phones and IoT devices.

Omnispace’s 3GPP-compliant, ITU-recognized spectrum assets provide a strong regulatory and technical foundation for scalable service delivery, while Lynk brings proven satellite-to-smartphone technology and relationships with more than 50 MNOs in 50 countries.

“This merger gives us the technology, spectrum and leadership to extend mobile connectivity where it’s needed most,” said Lynk CEO Ramu Potarazu, who will lead the new company.

Omnispace CEO Ram Viswanathan, who will become Chief Strategy Officer, said: “Together we’re building a powerful, scalable and cost-effective global D2D platform.”

SES CEO Adel Al-Saleh said the merger “aligns with SES’s strategy to diversify into high-growth D2D and IoT markets,” providing access to new low-Earth orbit (LEO) capabilities.

The transaction is expected to close late this year or early next year, pending regulatory approval.
