Leading provider of open-source software and services, Obsidian Systems, together with industry partner Talend are teaming up to host a series of technology-centric information sessions running from 17-28 July in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg.
The sessions will focus on big data to empower data-driven organisations to create new business channels.
Obsidian suggests the success of industry game-changers, including the likes of Uber and Airbnb, is down to a strategic understanding and adoption of agile IT infrastructure, as well as the ability to generate and leverage data. This data is created both within and outside of the business.
These technology sessions will cover several topics that are front-of-mind for business leaders, those who implement digital strategies. Topics will include shadow IT, big data, open-source technology and data management, as well as a commitment to IT as a utility and growing dependence on IaaS, SaaS and PaaS type architectures.
Muggie van Staden, MD of Obsidian Systems, says that these trends make up the core of most business’ IT strategy.
“The advent of the cloud is most certainly a driver in this market, it is setting the pace and heightening demand for IT to support agile architectures. That is the basis for the rise of shadow IT – which, in turn, places the focus back onto security concerns,” says van Staden.
One of the central themes of the scheduled information sessions is the impact of big data, which as the leadership from Obsidian Systems say presents the market with both challenges and opportunities.
Data creation offers analytical and operational value and this is derived from both unstructured and structured data.
