Equinix expands into Africa with the acquisition of MainOne for $320 million

Equinix, the world’s digital infrastructure company, has revealed that it has finalized its acquisition of West African data center and connectivity solutions provider MainOne for an enterprise value of US$320 million, signaling the beginning of its evolution into the African continent. The implementation of this acquisition contributes to Equinix’s desired strategy of becoming a leading African carrier-neutral digital infrastructure company by bringing a full range of innovative solutions and connectivity to Nigeria, Ghana, and Cote d’Ivoire. The multinational American corporation based in Redwood City, California specializes in Internet connectivity and data centers, boasting over 229 data centers in 27 countries across five continents, making it a leading global colocation data center market share. This acquisition will expand Platform Equinix into West Africa, providing access to worldwide and regional markets for institutions based either in or out of Africa.
