Khazna Data Centers and Benya Group ink historic deal to establish Egypt’s first premier Hyper-Scale Data Center

The data center reflects these organizations’ shared dedication of promoting Digital Transformation and innovation in Middle East and North Africa.

Khazna Data Centers, one of the largest network of hyper-scale data centers in the Middle East and North Africa region, and Benya Group, a leading digital and ICT infrastructure provider in Egypt and the MEA Region, formalized the shareholders agreement to bring the first hyper-scale data center to Egypt.

The agreement was signed during a high-profile ceremony held on the first day of the Cairo ICT 2023 event. The agreement was signed by Hassan Alnaqbi, CEO of Khazna Data Centers and Eng. Ahmed Mekky, Chairman and CEO of Benya Group.

The momentous occasion was witnessed by esteemed VIPs and dignitaries including Her Excellency Mariam Khalifa Alkaabi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Egypt, Mr. Hossam Heiba, President of the General Authority of Free Zones and Investment (GAFI), and Dr. Mohamed Farid, Chairman of Financial Regulatory Authority.

As part of its commitment to bolstering the region’s technological landscape, Khazna Data Centers had earlier this year revealed its plans to enter the Egyptian market in collaboration with Benya Group, aimed at building the first hyper-scale data center in Egypt’s Maadi Technology Park. With a combined investment totaling more than USD $250 million, this ambitious venture signifies a significant milestone in both companies’ shared dedication to promoting digital transformation and innovation in the Middle East and North African region.

Hassan Alnaqbi, CEO Khazna Data Centers, said: “We are thrilled to mark this occasion with the signing of the Shareholders Agreement with Benya Group as we prepare to break ground on the first hyper-scale data center in Egypt. This collaboration represents a pivotal step in our continued efforts to boost digital infrastructure not only in the UAE, but also the wider region, laying the groundwork for a technologically advanced future. The new data center will provide crucial support to businesses in Egypt seeking to expand internationally, offering state-of-the-art solutions that cater to the needs of multinational corporations striving to grow and innovate in the Middle East and North African markets.”

Ahmed Mekky, Chairman and CEO of Benya Group, said: “We are eager to embark on the next phase of our partnership with Khazna Data Centers. This agreement that we are signing today mark an essential milestone in our journey to solidify our presence in constructing advanced data centers in the country, supported by our partner, Khazna Data Centers, who is renowned for its unparalleled expertise in this field. The establishment of this data center will help Egypt to become a focal point for technological innovation and digital transformation, reaffirming its stature within the global digital landscape. It will also elevate operations in Africa and the Middle East, driving investments and fostering cloud computing and content systems.”

Pioneering AI development and digital innovation beyond the Middle East

The development of Egypt’s first hyper-scale data center at Maadi Technology Park will play a vital role in supporting the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI). With its revolutionary infrastructure and stellar technical features, the data center is poised to support the region’s digital growth by providing cutting-edge digital infrastructure.

The data center will provide an additional 25 MW of IT load and is strategically positioned to meet the escalating demand for advanced digital infrastructure which enhances the digital resilience of enterprises. In an era characterized by the rapid growth of data-driven by AI, the new data center will become a critical asset poised to support Egypt’s growing digital ecosystem.
