Crucial Academy in Brighton, which helps armed forces veterans make the transition to civilian careers in cybersecurity, has received a prestigious employer recognition award from the Ministry of Defence.
Founded by four former Royal Marines, Crucial Academy offers free accredited courses, qualifications and careers in cybersecurity to those that have served in the armed forces.
The company was presented with the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award by Right Honourable Earl Howe, Nigel Atkinson and Rear Admiral Chris Gardner CBE, at a ceremony aboard the HMS Victory in Portsmouth.
The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) recognises employers that show outstanding support for defence and the military community. Each organisation recognised by the scheme has signed the Armed Forces Covenant – a pledge that those who serve or have served in the armed forces, and their families, will receive fair treatment and respect.
Crucial Academy CEO Neil Williams said: “It is an honour to receive the ERS Silver Award. I was proud to serve my country and I wanted to help other people leaving the military to find a pathway to Civvy Street.
“People who have spent time in the forces have an incredible work ethic, resilience and a security-driven mindset that makes many very well suited to a career in cyber security. We’re proud to support them to realise their potential.”
Commenting on Crucial Academy, Johnny Mercer, MP for Plymouth Moor View, said: “People have made serious efforts over the years to try and capture some of the talent which comes out of the military – and this is the most positive I’ve seen.”
