Reaktor opens Lisbon office to accelerate tech developer community growth

Reaktor, the Finland-founded technology consultancy, has announced the opening of its office in Lisbon, Portugal – the latest addition to the company’s expanding network of tech talent hubs across Europe.

The new location has been selected for Portugal’s reputation as Europe’s fastest-growing tech ecosystem, offering a desirable lifestyle which developers are seeking.

Within the next three to four years the company aims to recruit 100 plus engineers, including coders. Reflecting a location-agnostic environment where remote working is widespread, the office is due to officially open in December 2021, however recruiting is already in progress.

Ambassadors from Reaktor’s HQ in Helsinki have already relocated to embed the dynamic, people-first company culture and help build it in Lisbon, bringing a wealth of skills and knowledge and enabling new recruits to find value and meaning in their work.

Appointed to lead the new office is Nizar Jouini, who joined as a developer eight years ago and is now head of engineering. He is also in charge of global talent growth in European markets. His 20 plus years’ experience consulting within the tech industry position him as an expert engineer recruiter. He led the Amsterdam expansion from Helsinki and has a background in software development in start-ups through to enterprise.

The Lisbon office signals the expansion of Reaktor’s technology teams in line with the growing global demand for highly skilled technical engineers. Providing talent with work-life balance will increase competitive advantage and improve long term staff retention.

Lisbon is becoming a relocation hotspot for tech companies due to its vibrant tech culture, accessibility and level of ambition. It also offers inter-Atlantic time-zone positioning and high calibre graduate hiring opportunities. The city bridges the geographic gap between the US and Helsinki and already hosts a thriving tech community, which drove the decision to expand into this region.

Nizar Jouini, Head of Engineering at Reaktor said: “When it came to searching for the right location, the Portuguese tech scene was naturally the best fit for us. The talent pool here is amazing; people are skilled, easy-going and honest about what they can do. Lisbon embodies our core company values – an international, get-things-done mindset, endless curiosity into the unknown and going the extra mile when things get tough. There is also opportunity for Reaktor to bring a people-first attitude – our ethos is to ensure our people find true value in what they do. Our next CTO could come from Lisbon and this is a very exciting prospect.

“Our priority in Lisbon is to develop a tight community and set up a system for advancing our tech skills. Our aim is to become the best possible place for developers to learn from other equally passionate professionals, grow in their profession and have a good time while doing so.”
