200,000 homes across the Balearic Islands to be connected with 10-gigabit speed

A total of 200,000 homes across the Balearic Islands will soon have access to ultra-fast fibre connectivity thanks to a new project between Slovenia’s Kontron and Fibwi worth €5 million. 100,000 homes across Mallorca will be among the first to be connected.

Fibwi has now become the first network operator in the Balearic Islands to offer XGS-PON technology and services for its customers, with symmetrical speeds of up to 10Gbps. This project marks an important milestone of high-speed connectivity for the region. The strategic collaboration guarantees the best Internet experience not only for residents of large cities, but also for those in less populated rural areas.

Pepe Seger, Business Development for Spain and Latin America at Slovenia’s Kontron, said: “We are delighted to see the positive impact of our solution for Fibwi. This achievement reaffirms our commitment in offering European solutions that make a difference in the current technological and geopolitical landscape.”

Francisco Alcalde, the Founder and CEO of Fibwi, said: “We are truly excited to be the first in the Balearic Islands to offer Internet connectivity with speeds of 10 Gbps. With this milestone, Fibwi consolidates its position as the speed leader providing unparalleled internet experience in urban areas and inland villages alike.”

The 10-gigabit data rate promises to transform the experience of users and families and is ideal for those that require ultra-fast connectivity for work, study or entertainment.
