Spain leads Europe in workplace productivity; UK and Ireland lag

New research from Ricoh Europe reveals Spain as Europe’s productivity leader, with 92% of Spanish employees reporting high output and only 4% feeling unproductive.

In contrast, the UK and Ireland rank lowest, with 9% of employees considering themselves unproductive – over twice the rate in Spain.

The study of 7,000 workers and 1,800 decision-makers across Europe highlights the impact of workplace technology. Only 28% of UK and Irish employees feel well-equipped technologically for collaboration, the lowest figure surveyed. France (22%) and Germany (27%) also see outdated technology as a key barrier to productivity, according to business leaders.

Employees across Europe are calling for better tools, with 40% desiring improved document management software, 37% communication and collaboration tools and 36% automation software to boost their productivity. The findings suggest a strong link between modern technology and workplace efficiency across the continent.

Caroline Bright, Chief Strategy and Commercial Officer of Ricoh Europe, said: “The productivity gap across Europe should be a wake-up call for business leaders. When Spanish workers are more than twice as likely to be productive as their UK counterparts, we must ask ourselves why. Our research shows that equipping employees with the right technology is essential for unlocking their full potential and driving productivity.”
