Schloss Elmau cuts reservations workload by 50% following cloud transformation

German luxury resort Schloss Elmau has modernised its hospitality technology environment with a cloud-based property management platform, cutting the workload within its reservations department by 50% and automating administrative processes across its operations.

Schloss Elmau has reduced the workload within its reservations department by 50% after moving its hospitality operations to a cloud-based property management platform.

The luxury resort in the Bavarian Alps has implemented Oracle Hospitality OPERA Cloud as part of a wider modernisation of its technology environment.

After decades of using the same property management solution, Schloss Elmau worked with Oracle Hospitality to redesign processes rather than replicate its existing operating environment in the cloud.

The project included implementing OPERA Cloud Property Management and Sales and Events Management, as well as preparing more than 100 members of staff for the transition.

Dietmar Mueller-Elmau, CEO and Owner, Schloss Elmau, said: “For me, the decision came down to trust. The Oracle Hospitality team listened to what we needed, understood the complexity of our operation, and delivered on its commitments. We initially thought that if OPERA Cloud could give us everything we valued in our previous solution, that would already be a success. What we found was something much more powerful. OPERA Cloud has afforded us the flexibility to rethink and automate processes around how we want to operate, rather than adapting our hotel to the limitations of the technology.”

Since going live, the resort has automated administrative work across reservations, guest communications and reporting.

The changes have reduced workload within the reservations department by half, allowing employees to spend more time working directly with guests.

“The real opportunity with cloud technology is not to replicate the way you worked before. It is to use the move as an opportunity to rethink your business,” said Mueller-Elmau. “For a hotel like ours, the goal of automation is to reduce busy work and empower our employees to spend more time doing what matters most: engaging with our guests and delivering exceptional service.”

Schloss Elmau’s technology requirements extend beyond conventional hotel operations. The resort also hosts concerts, meetings and other events alongside its leisure activities.

It is using Sales and Events Management to support meetings and events, while the Oracle Hospitality Integration Platform enables the resort to connect specialised services with its wider technology environment.

Laura Calin, Senior Vice President, Oracle Consumer Industries, said: “Schloss Elmau demonstrates what modern hospitality technology should enable – giving operators the freedom to adapt technology to the needs of its business and guests.”

The implementation provides Schloss Elmau with a cloud foundation through which it can continue to automate processes and develop its digital guest and operational services.
