T-Mobile Netherlands implements synchronisation solution in network

Oscilloquartz, an ADVA Optical Networking company, today announced that T-Mobile Netherlands has launched the OSA 5420 product line to enable nationwide rollout of TD-LTE services. With this expansion of the synchronisation network, T-Mobile Netherlands is prepared for LTE Advanced Pro, eLTE and 5G and can thus meet the rapidly increasing data requirements. The Grandmaster reference sensors in the OSA 5420 range offer better than 1 μs accuracy. They are therefore ideally suited for the next generation of mobile phone technology. In addition, they provide unmatched levels of reliability and scalability. With the new solution, which also supports Assisted Partial Timing Support, T-Mobile Netherlands can easily extend the existing synchronisation network.

“Implementing the complete synchronisation solution from Oscilloquartz is central to the expansion of our network, and its unique technology allows us to seamlessly extend our existing infrastructure, providing exceptionally precise frequency and phase synchronisation to LTE-TDD-based mobile services. LTE-A and 5G, “said Muzaffer Erdem, Transport Network Solutions Engineer, T-Mobile Netherlands. “As our voice, video and data applications are becoming more demanding, providing high-quality synchronisation via the packet-based connectivity of our mobile base stations is of paramount importance, and the OSA 5420 product line is ideal scalable solution, which can cope with future requirements. It was also easy to integrate into our existing infrastructure and was easy to install. In addition, at each stage of the collaboration, we were impressed by the excellent support we received from the Oscilloquartz team.”

To meet current and future wireless base station connectivity requirements, T-Mobile Netherlands has implemented the OSA 5420 product line in its core network and metro aggregation points. Using the latest Precision Time Protocol (PTP) technology to IEEE 1588v2, the solution enables precise phase synchronisation throughout the national network. This will enable new mobile technologies such as Coordinated Multi-Point (CoMP) for higher bandwidth services and improved availability. Despite its compactness, the OSA 5420 product line can span the longest possible failures of global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) in the industry and, if necessary, switch to other GNSS networks.

“T-Mobile Netherlands is one of the country’s leading mobile operators, committed to delivering the highest levels of service to its customers, and with our high-precision, reliable synchronisation technology, the company can meet tremendous demand and provide customers with the most advanced services,” said Gil Biran, Managing Director of Oscilloquartz. “Our OSA 5420 product line is optimised for off-grid use, allowing T-Mobile Netherlands to provide precise synchronisation at metro locations, where accurate time information is very important. In addition, our solution supports both synchronisation over existing interfaces and the latest PTP technology, creating a single synchronisation network. This technology allows a smooth transition to LTE-Advanced Pro and lays the foundation for 5G mobile technology. T-Mobile Netherlands is thus very well prepared for the increasing bandwidth requirements.”
